Welcome to Danderhall Primary and ELC Website

Head Teacher's Welcome

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child/ren to Danderhall Primary and Early Learning Centre. Whether you are a pupil, parent/carer or a member of our community, I hope our website will help you to gain a greater understanding of who we are, what we stand for and what we do.

Danderhall Primary is a non-denominational, co-education school serving the village of Danderhall and the surrounding rural areas, predominantly Newton Village, Millerhill, Shawfair and Hilltown. The school role continues to grow however we currently have 410 pupils from P1-P7, with a further 92 pupils in our ELC.

The school was originally situated in Newton and moved to the current location in 1959. Between 2019 and 2021, building work took place to replace Danderhall Primary and ELC on the existing site – In April 2021 we moved into our new school building, which is part of the Danderhall Community Hub. This new shared campus hosts the leisure centre, soft play facilities, the local library and a coffee shop.

At Danderhall, we work together as a school team, with families and with supporting agencies with high expectations for all of our learners. Our vision, Developing Community, Determined to Succeed was establish to reflect our developing community and our determination to succeed in everything we do. Our vision is underpinned by our core values of Resilience, Inclusion, Nurture and Kindness. It is important to me that children, staff and families feel valued, that they are part of the journey and that their voices are heard.

Our school is a very busy place with many enriching events for the children and their families. We look forward to working together in our warm and welcoming school and we can achieve the best outcomes for all our children. We continually evaluate what we do in order to give the children the very best education. We know the importance that parents/carers play in their child’s education and so fully welcome your involvement in your child’s education and in the life of our school and ELC.

I feel very privileged to be the Head Teacher of such a successful and happy school.

Mr Chris Reid
